Members all agree that the club's success is due not only to its fantastic facilities but also because everyone is extremely friendly. The excellent atmosphere attracts families, the young and the not so young alike because the club goes to great lengths to provide something for everyone...
Kinver couple Elwin and Diane Davies have clocked up over 50 years of membership between them and absolutely love the club. "I'd not played tennis at all when I joined the club 34 years ago," said Elwin who's now in his 70s. "The beauty of Stourbridge Lawn Tennis & Squash Club is that it's a very happy club and although I didn't know a soul there when I started, it didn't take me long to get to know everyone."
It can be hard finding activities that everyone in the family enjoys but Mick and Val Molineux found the perfect solution when they joined the club over 14 years ago when their children were small. Now, Val and sixteen year old Laura play tennis whilst Mick and nineteen year old draftsman Lee enjoy squash, racquetball and use the gym. "There's a good family atmosphere at the club that makes it excellent for kids," said Mick. "One or more of us are at the club most nights and it also plays a very big part of our social life too - it really is superb value for money."
Just over a year ago Rachel Quinn was looking to improve her fitness levels but with 3 children age 7 and under, it was never going to be easy - or so she thought. Despite never having played racket sports or used a gym before, Rachel overcame her misgivings and responded to an advert for the club. She enrolled on a beginners racquetball course and hasn't looked back. "The crèche is brilliant - I leave the two youngest there twice every week and they love it," said Rachel. "The staff are great so I can relax knowing that the children are being well looked after."
Jayne Powell's story illustrates just how supportive and friendly other members have been. "Although I have been a member of the club for nearly 30 years, I never could have imagined the support I received when I was diagnosed with cancer last year. After undergoing two major operations I couldn't play sport for some time, but friends picked me up and gave me lifts to the club. Jon, the gym manager, has helped me to slowly regain my fitness in the gym and I am now ready to hit a tennis ball again," remarked Jayne.
